The first skateboarders took big wooden boards into empty swimming pools to mimic the waves of surfing. Not until the 1970’s, the first skateboard park was made in California. Shortly after, the skateboard park boom was about to begin. Many skate parks that were built in the next twenty years. Today, there are more than 2,600 skate parks in America. The popularity of skateboarding has taken off with the pros, such as Rob Drydek and Shaun White, who have brought it to the main stream.
