About
The first skaters took big wooden boards into empty swimming pools to mimic the waves of surfing. Not until the 1970’s, the first skatepark was made in Southern California. No one knew the skateboard building boom was about to begin. There were a lot of skate parks that were built in the next twenty years. Today, there are more than 2,600 skateparks in America. The popularity of skateboarding has taken off with the pros, like Tony Hawk, who have brought it to the main stream.
