The first skateboarders rode down hills in Carlsbad, CA with clay wheels so that they would have an activity to do when the surf wan’t good. Many years later, the first skateboard park was made in Southern California. Shortly after, the skateboard boom was about to begin. Thousands skate parks that were built in the next few years. Today, there are 2,600 skate parks in America. Skateboarding has taken off with the pros, like Tony Hawk, who have brought it to the main stream.
